Afternoon bike through the community
I felt the need to stretch my legs after a couple of lazy days and I wanted to see if Strava would work for me, it did and my route is below. I had been given rough directions “out the gate, turn right, go over the bridge and turn left at the cabbage patch”, so I followed these to begin with, and after the cabbage field I just kept left on any road that looked most travelled.
My ride took me through lots of small communities, through farm lands and villages, the main one called Matanya. I passed a number of schools, but as it was Saturday the children were all out in the fields helping their families with animals and crops. Shouting Jambo to everyone I passed and waving to all the children who run out to greet me, with a few perplexed looks from some locals who can’t understand why on earth I would be cycling for fitness in the afternoon sun. I had been warned that some of the kids may try to high five me on the way past, but only to grab by hand to pull me off my bike! I have not fallen for this yet.
A successful ride without a puncture en-route, the thorns from the Acacia tree are deadly for bike tyres, having never had to change a bike tyre in my life I was glad of this, but I’m sure it wont be long till I come a cropper, better have a go at fixing a puncture soon, before I get caught out, out and about!
- Every day traffic jam
- Donkeys working hard
- Cactus flowers following the sun
- Bumpy roads, but no rain today!
- Acacia tree, aka thorntree, whistling thorn, or wattle
