Arriving in Nairobi
My flight (KLM: Glasgow – Schipol – Nairobi) arrived about half an hour early, I got my 3 month visitor visa – $50USD – at customs and picked my bags and bike up, with no problem at all!
I was met by friends and we got going on the drive to Nanyuki. The road out of the airport and out of Nairobi was a bit crazy! Kenyans drive on the left hand side of the road, well… for the most part!
The roads, even the dual carriageway, were lined with stalls, with people selling mostly food, drink and newspapers, but it looked like you could get pretty much anything! When the traffic slowed, or there was a traffic jam, people would come up to your car window and offer you their wares and you did business right there and then in the middle of the road basically.
It was about a four hour drive North to Nanyuki, it’s 200km roughly and depending on traffic and weather can take a little less time.
Back in Nanyuki and driving round the boundary fence of the park, within minutes I had seen my first Zebra, Impala and Warthog! Later that evening we saw a big troop of Baboons and a few Buffalo!
